The wire attached to this post is about the size of a phone cable, indeed it probably is a phone cable. The GPO (now BT) used to attach them to a fitting screwed directly onto the wall, but these guys appear to have gone for the overkill option.
I await developments with interest. Well, not exactly interest, but it would be good to see an anvil, or some other substantial load hanging from it one day to justify the effort and expense.
